0, July 28, 2011The euphoria surrounding the magnificent win of Cadel Evans needs a permanent monument to this outstanding achievement.
I am suggesting something that will be available to all, become an iconic show piece for Victoria and may even save lives. It will not be cheap but may demonstrate to the people of Victoria what a visionary idea can do.
I am suggesting that two 100km dedicated cycle roadways be built through the most scenic parts of west and east Victoria. The cycle-ways could become part of the international professional cycle circuit for a week or two each year, the tour down under for example, but for the rest of the year be available for recreational cycling.
It would make cycling safe, would bring tourist activity to country centres and provide for those who fear riding on roads a pleasant and safe haven for exercise.
The cycle-ways would be known as The Cadel Evans Cycle-way. Some lateral thinking as to where to put it and how to pay for it will surely find the means.
