Bruises, Cruises & Bicycles in Vienna.

Vienna had everything it takes to be a world-class bicycle city, but then they went and bought a batch of the world’s worst bicycles and things took a turn for the worse.

This video is part of a global series of films documenting the stories of the world’s One Billion Bicycles, filmed and edited by independent filmmakers Bojun Bjorkman-Chiswell and Sarah Cowhey.

Created by the filmmakers to unearth the stories of the world’s bicycles and its importance to humanity, the film series journeys across 5 continents, 20 countries and over 140 interviews with high-powered ambassadors in Bejing through to a man in a bicycle wheelchair in the dusty streets of Mozambique.

Vienna’s Woeful Bicycle Share

Vienna is not without its bicycle enthusiasts, it just seems that that were it begins and ends. There are the ultra cool, ultra alternative types that do critical mass, fix their bike at The Bike Kitchen and buy their fixies at FixDich, everyone else takes the car.

Purple Lemons.

Vienna has bicycle lanes, bicycle signs and bicycle parking a plenty, but it seems to be all talk and no action because I hardly saw anyone using it.

Cycling Space Aplenty.

All the right signs.

When I hit town I do a lot of walking and I walked the whole city and I even rode the Danube only to find a couple of leisure cyclists.
