New Bicycle Rain Cape – Cleverhood

CleverHood_4

A rain cape, for the rare occassions you get caught in a shower, is a bicycle-babe wardrobe essential!

But finding the perfect rain cape is harder than avoiding rain storms!

In all my years of the bicycle life I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been caught in a down pour.

It just so happens that one of those rare occassions was last week while testing out the US-made rain cape – Cleverhood

I had high hopes for a cape named Cleverhood and it lived up to all of them,

Bicycle Filmmaker Fadi Hindash

Fadi Portrait_4x3

Palestinian born, Dubai raised, New York educated, and now resident filmmaker of Amsterdam, Fadi Hindash, didn’t intend to make a film about bicycles given they are rather a mundane topic in The Netherlands, but Mama Agatha’s bicycle story touched a nerve.

Hindash was having coffee one afternoon, with a friend, when he saw in the distance a group of veiled Moroccan women learning to cycle in a park.

The image stayed with the filmmaker for days, “I suddenly realized the image appealed to me because these women were trying to integrate in a society that is not considered theirs.

Bad Bicycle Infrastructure in Budapest

Budapest_web_14

Budapest has the potential to be one of the world’s most picturesque bicycle cities.

Surely every politician’s dream is to have the citizens of their city prefer the bicycle over the car, thus erasing an entire city’s congestion, pollution, health and parking problems?

Not so in Budapest, where bicycle activists have had to fight every step of the way to have bicycle infrastructure included during the building of new roads and bridges.

Budapest highlights this world-wide phenomenon because it is a city that is transitioning from communism, when fewer people owned private cars,

“I chose this bicycle because it’s like a Dutch bike. I’ve loved every minute of being on it so far. It’s the Maserati of bikes, actually maybe it’s more the Studebaker of bikes.”

This photo was taken for urban cycling mag Treadlie. Some images get into the mag and some don’t.   We’ve loaded them all so you get to see all the people who generously got off their bicycles and gave up a their time to be interviewed for a good cause. The Bike In My Life thanks them.

Melbourne Men’s Bad Bicycle Attitude.

Only the unloved hate

The men of Melbourne have much to answer for. I have traveled the world; Vietnam, South Africa, Chile, France and Mauritius just to name a few, but there is not a city that I have been in where the men are more aggressive and treat women with the venom that they do right here in my home town.

I ride a bicycle, and on the scale of human possibility I’m in the ‘not bad’ zone. There’s much to be said for the appeal of any young woman on a bicycle, so when I ride past you are almost guaranteed to at least enjoy the view,

Light-Weight Electric Bicycle

Another awesome innovative electric bicycle from our friends who made the solar-electric cargo bicycle – NTS Works.

Never mind the sport’s workout this bicycle is for women who want to get around with freedom, ease and up steep hills!

The mini, but powerful, battery can be rebuilt and upgraded for half the cost of a new battery which makes this e-bike super affordable and way more eco-friendly than standard e-bikes.

Check it out!
